SUBJECTS: Permanent Doctor in Kimba

BERNADETTE CLARK, HOST: The Upper Eyre Peninsula town of Kimba has secured a permanent locum doctor for the next 12 months. The doctor was staff Kimba as recently opened $1 million medical centre aimed at attracting more health workers to the town. 

Federal Senator Karen Grogan says the ultimate goal is to set get a permanent local doctor in Kimba. But getting doctors in regional areas is still a challenge. 

KAREN GROGAN, LABOR SENATOR FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA: We are making progress. It has been very slow. 

We've seen so many challenges across the regions in terms of health professionals.
